Meet the Artists of COMMUNITY: Peter Mangan

Sculptor Peter Mangan's primary materials are metal and glass, and he plays the solid weight of one against the delicacy of the other. We're excited to have his work in COMMUNITY, S|O Gallery's inaugural exhibition.

Peter's techniques cross generations, from plasma cutting and blacksmithing to computer-controlled kilns and medieval glass-painting methods. Lately he's been exploring the human figure, using a simple silhouette as a starting point for questions about what fills a person: memories, humor, quirks, and the relationships and places that shape us.

He earned a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and an MFA in sculpture from San Jose State, apprenticed at Bullseye Glass in Portland, and spent years in Bay Area glass studios. His work has been shown and collected across the U.S., Europe, and Japan. After years of splitting time between California and Texas, Peter and his wife, Karen, now live and work full-time in the Hill Country.

See Peter's work in COMMUNITY at S|O Gallery, 213 N Nugent St, Johnson City, TX 78636. Grand Opening: Friday, November 27, 2026, 4–7 pm (opening night of Lights Spectacular) and Artist Reception: Saturday, December 5, 2026, 4–7 pm. This exhibition runs through January 23, 2027.
